Christ Church Umhlanga
A few words about us
Christ Church Umhlanga (CCU), situated in Somerset Park near the busy Gateway complex, has been in this growing area since 2005. However, CCU dates all the way back to 1985 when the first 10 congregants or so gathered in a school hall in La Lucia with its first minister, Lawrence Law, and a piano no-one knew how to play! Today the church owns the ground its building stands on in Somerset Park and has a thriving all-round ministry. CCU forms part of the Church of England in South Africa ( REACH South Africa), an Anglican denomination which held its first service on record in this country in Cape Town over 200 years ago.
But the Church of England roots go back even further than these 200 odd years; they go back to the time of the Reformation – the heady years of the 1500s when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the Wittenberg Church door. CCU is therefore reformed and, most importantly, evangelical – that is, we believe that the Bible is the inspired, authoritative, sufficient, clear word of God, that is as relevant today as it was when it was penned thousands of years ago. CCU therefore strives to make the public reading and explanation of the Bible the basis and the focus of its meetings, as has been the case in evangelical, reformed churches for hundreds of years.
God's Word above all things
To see lives changes by our Lord Jesus Christ for the glory of God
To see lives changed by the Lord Jesus Christ for the Glory of God
We want to see people in awe of Jesus and the new life that he has given them through his death on the cross so that this brings glory to the father.
