10-Minute Version
The Bible is the story of God’s marriage to an unfaithful spouse. God, the faithful spouse, sought out the unfaithful spouse. Through Jesus’ death God then became that unfaithful spouse's prince, made her His forever bride, and rejoiced over her. Now in Ephesians 5:31-32 Paul quotes Genesis 2:24:
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh”.
He goes on to say:
This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.
The mystery is that Christ’s people – the church, His bride - are now united with Him forever ('married' to Him), never to be separated again. Nothing – in life or death – can separate us from His love (Romans 8:35).
(Taken from Alive in Him, Gloria Furman).
Rejoice now with your triplet/pair that – together – we are married to our ultimate, best, forever husband, Jesus.
