Racism is such a complex, emotive, and volatile issue in contemporary South African culture. At times it’s hard to know where to begin when entering the conversation. As Christians we want to be at the forefront of reconciliation, healing, and true justice, but often we don’t even know where to start. Perhaps the best thing to do is to start with the basics: Outing racism for what it is, and then ensuring that the church is the one place where racism doesn’t flourish. If we could get that right we’d be well on our way to entering into the broader national conversation on race in a constructive and redemptive way.
